GSVA performs a change in coordinate systems, transforming the data from a gene by sample matrix to a gene-set by sample matrix, thereby allowing the evaluation of pathway enrichment for each sample. This new matrix of GSVA enrichment scores facilitates applying standard analytical methods like functional enrichment, survival analysis, clustering, CNV-pathway analysis or cross-tissue pathway analysis, in a pathway-centric manner. authors: - family-names: Castelo given-names: Robert email: robert.castelo@upf.edu orcid: https://orcid.org/0000-0003-2229-4508 - family-names: Guinney given-names: Justin email: jguinney@gmail.com preferred-citation: type: article title: 'GSVA: gene set variation analysis for microarray and RNA-Seq data' authors: - family-names: H\"anzelmann given-names: Sonja - family-names: Castelo given-names: Robert email: robert.castelo@upf.edu orcid: https://orcid.org/0000-0003-2229-4508 - family-names: Guinney given-names: Justin email: jguinney@gmail.com journal: BMC Bioinformatics volume: '14' year: '2013' url: https://doi.org/10.1186/1471-2105-14-7 doi: 10.1186/1471-2105-14-7 start: '7' repository: https://bioc-release.r-universe.dev repository-code: https://github.com/rcastelo/GSVA commit: f5804d7c2a1bc55cb65c708eb427126e222d5841 url: https://github.com/rcastelo/GSVA date-released: '2026-05-19' contact: - family-names: Castelo given-names: Robert email: robert.castelo@upf.edu orcid: https://orcid.org/0000-0003-2229-4508
